Rafael Jose Ramos

Rafael Jose Ramos is using his NEF scholarship award as a graduate student of Nursing Anesthesia at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He worked for 3 years at a Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit at Stanford Hospitals in California before deciding to further his education and pursue a degree in anesthesia. Rafael, who grew up in the Philippines, credits his interest in anesthesiology to a Nurse Anesthetist who took time to explain everything about his procedure to him while he awaited surgery. His experience as a patient inspired his nursing career. Upon completion of his degree he plans to enlist in the army. One day he will return to academia and teach at a graduate nursing level either in the Philippines or the United States.
