Mobolaji “Mobo” Odewole, MPH, MS, NP, RN, is the gracious and honored recipient of Columbia University – Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association Inc./J. Margaret Ada Mutch Scholarship.

Mr. Odewole is a Doctoral student at Columbia University School of Nursing specializing in the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas in Arlington, a Master of Public Health degree followed in 2010 from Boston, University. In 2021 he earned his nursing Master of Science degree as an Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner from Columbia University School of Nursing.

Prior to his graduate nursing studies at Columbia University, Mobolaji worked as a clinical research project manager at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital studying Asthma. He also worked as a Research Project Manager at UT Southwestern Medical Center studying liver cirrhosis and liver oncology. Very well versed in professional writing, Mr. Odewole is published and co-authored in over 13 peer-reviewed publications in various journals such as Clinical Gastroenterology Hepatology, Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutic. He was also awarded the best Scientific Paper in Liver Category for his presentation at the American College of Gastroenterology Conference (ACG) in 2019.

Moboljai’s Nurse Practitioner path at Columbia University School of Nursing has been focused on learning, teaching, and growing as a leader. He serves in leadership positions as President of Student Council; Student Ambassador; Peer Mentor; and he participates on various university committees in addition to his teaching assistant position. He is currently the Bobbie Berkowitz Nursing Scholar and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, as well as being actively involved with the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked on the Covid unit at New York Presbyterian Columbia Hospital and served as a volunteer administering Covid vaccinations and boosters to the community. Through his volunteer service and commitment to the community, he was awarded the Certificate of Special U.S. Congressional Recognition by the honorable U.S House Representative Yvette Clarke and received the Greater NYC Black Nurses Association 2021 Student Nurse of Year award.

Beyond his academic endeavors, he currently works full-time as a clinical nurse at New York Presbyterian Hospital on the Surgical Spine Step-Down unit and served there as both preceptor, and charge nurse. He is also the chair of his unit council and involved in various hospital Nursing Professional Governance Councils committees.

The choice of Adult Acute Care DNP specialty aligns with his background and career path: evidence-based research, advanced clinical practice, and nurse education. Additionally, he would like to leverage his doctorate degree to help manage the health and illness of adult patients over their lifespan. His research interest includes preventing racial and socioeconomic disparities in delivery of care and outcomes in patients with cancer. Besides his involvement in a multitude of professional endeavors, Mr. Odewole enjoys watching soccer, college football, basketball, and loves traveling.
