Recipient of the Mathy Mezey Endowed Scholarship Fund, is a PhD Candidate at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In addition, Mia is ANCC-certified in Cardiac-Vascular Nursing and Gerontological Nursing.

Before starting her doctoral education, Mia worked as a bedside nurse on a Tele-Vent unit in a Magnet hospital in Illinois. Her experience in caring for older heart failure patients inspired her to become a nurse researcher. For her dissertation, she is examining potential facilitators and barriers to the adoption of mHealth in older people with heart failure. She hopes to make a lasting impact on the lives of people with heart failure, well beyond that of the bedside, through the development of innovative, person-centered, self-management interventions.

She chose to pursue her doctoral education at Johns Hopkins because of its proven track record of training scholars, commitment to interdisciplinary science, and excellence in cardiovascular disease management research. Besides working on her dissertation study, Mia has been actively involved in several research studies both locally and internationally. Lastly, as a Jonas Nurse Leader Scholar, she has had the opportunity to collaborate with the Maryland Action Coalition in their work on advancing nursing education.
