Laura M. Criddle

After graduating from nursing school in a quiet suburban community, Laura Marie Criddle found herself (quite by accident!) employed in a huge medical center in Harlem. Although it was a bit of a culture shock, Laura quickly developed a fascination for patients with traumatic injuries and other critical illnesses. This interest eventually led her back to school (University of California, San Francisco) for graduate studies as an emergency/trauma clinical nurse specialist. Over the years, Laura has practiced in trauma centers in New York, California, Texas, and Oregon.

A long-time member of the Emergency Nurses Association, Ms. Criddle has held numerous leadership positions including editorial board member for the Journal of Emergency Nursing, Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) exam construction and review committee member, and president of the Oregon Emergency Nurses Association. Laura has published over 40 manuscripts in professional journals and is the coeditor of the recently published 6th edition of Sheehy's Manual of Emergency Care.

After 13 years as a clinical nurse specialist, Ms. Criddle once again returned to school and has now completed all of the course work for a PhD. in nursing from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. She plans to spend the next two years working on her dissertation, examining the impact of major traumatic injury on life expectancy in the geriatric population. Laura currently works part-time, traveling the world as a flight nurse for Premier Jets, an international air ambulance firm based in Hillsboro, Oregon.
