Jeanne B. Jenkins

Jeanne B. Jenkins, RN, MSN, MBA has been a Registered Nurse for 13 years. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1994. During her undergraduate program, she worked as a Nursing Assistant in the Emergency Department (ED) at Duke University Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center in Durham, North Carolina. After completing her BSN program, she began her nursing career at Duke where she worked in a variety of areas of the next ten years, including medical/surgical, ED, outpatient general medicine, and case management for trauma services. During her time as a staff nurse in the ED, she achieved advanced staff nurse status and assumed various leadership roles in the ED. She was the chairperson for the ED trauma committee, the coordinator and faculty for the trauma educational outreach program which provided trauma education to rural area hospital staff. She was also the coordinator and volunteer trainer for the ENCARE© program through the Emergency Nurses Association. This program used volunteers to increase community and healthcare professional's awareness of the effects of alcohol related injuries in teens. Jeanne has also served her community in other ways. She is currently very active in her church as the Women's Ministries director, she has volunteered at the local women and children's rescue mission. She has also served as a Durham county Risk Watch volunteer and a board member for Rape Crisis of Durham. She was awarded the 1997 Friends of Nursing Award for her work with trauma patients.

In December 2003, Jeanne obtained her Masters of Nursing and Masters of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Upon graduation, she was honored with Sigma Theta Tau Gamma Zeta Chapter MSN Graduate Excellence Award and the Bryan School of Business and Economics Academic Excellence Award and Outstanding Graduate Award for 2003. While completing her graduate work, Jeanne assumed the role of nurse manager for a 19 bed clinical observation unit at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While in this role, she managed a very diverse staff and was responsible for the overall daily operations of the unit. She also assumed an adjunct faculty position at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing where she was a clinical instructor for undergraduate nursing students. In fall 2004, Jeanne accepted a full time clinical instructor position at UNC School of Nursing in the Continuing Education Department. This position afforded Jeanne the opportunity to work with various nursing faculty and to author two online teaching modules for geriatric education, two book chapters, and a journal article. In 2007 Jeanne was promoted to Clinical Assistant Professor.

Jeanne is currently a full time a doctoral student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Nursing. Her research interest is acute pain management in the older adult which began with her work as a former faculty member. She is also interested in nursing leadership and charge nurse empowerment. She plans to assume a faculty role once she has completed her program and to continue her research and educate future nursing student.

Jeanne is a member of the North Carolina Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, the North Carolina Organization of Nurse Leaders, and the Southern Nursing Research Society. She is also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society and Sigma Theta Tau International.
