Ashlee Fisher is the proud recipient of the Mary V. Insall Scholarship.  This is a significant milestone in Ashlee's education provides essential financial support as she enters her final year in the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program at Walden University.

Ashlee’s passion for nursing was ignited during her early experiences as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Through her work, she discovered a profound interest in patient care, particularly in wound and ostomy management. This realization laid the groundwork for her nursing career and guided her decision to specialize in this area of healthcare, where she aims to make a significant difference in the lives of her patients.  Her journey into nursing has been deeply influenced by her family background; both her great-grandmother and aunt were dedicated nurses. Their stories of compassion and dedication inspired Ashlee to follow in their footsteps. Coupled with her hands-on experience as a CNA, this familial influence solidified her commitment to the nursing profession.

Ashlee completed her undergraduate degrees for LPN, Associate RN, and BSN at Colorado Mesa University, where she acquired the skills and knowledge essential for her career. After graduation, she became a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (WOCN), specializing in caring for patients with complex needs. Currently, she works at a local hospital, where she took the initiative to establish and help run an ostomy support group. This group is vital for creating a sense of community and provides education and support to individuals facing the challenges associated with ostomies. Her involvement underscores her dedication to enhancing the quality of life for her patients.

She chose Walden University for her FNP program due to its structured approach to maintaining a work-life balance, an important consideration as she balances her professional duties with academic pursuits. Additionally, the positive experiences of two friends who graduated from Walden's program played a significant role in her decision to enroll. She believes that her education at Walden will provide her with the necessary tools to achieve her aspiration to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

In her community, there exists a substantial gap in healthcare services, particularly ostomy and wound care. Ashlee’s goal is to bridge this gap and become a vital resource, offering specialized care and support to individuals in need. She is driven by a passion to improve outcomes for wound and ostomy patients, empowering them with the knowledge and resources necessary for their well-being.

Receiving the Mary V. Insall Scholarship has been transformative for Ashlee, allowing her to concentrate more on her studies while alleviating financial burdens as she approaches her final year of school. The scholarship represents not only financial aid but also a recognition of her commitment to nursing and determination to serve her community effectively.

Ashlee looks forward to the future and the impact she hopes to have as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She is grateful for the opportunity provided by the Mary V. Insall Scholarship, which will enable her to more fully pursue her career.
